hey, all.
my rasboras have been in social turmoil ever since the lead rasbora died from an intestinal blockage. I think that adding more rasboras may help calm down the situation. to do this, i must move my betta. I am going to get the aqua-tech 5G hex because it is the best value for my dollar based on comparisons of the various kits avalible to me here.

I was originally planning to do the betta, and then 2 otos once I get my algae in. this shouldn't take too long as i'm going to add a lot of items from my current aquarium. I know this is feasible in a normal 5G, but how about a hex? I am aware that hex tanks can support less life than a normal 5G because of the reduced surface area and horizontal swimming space. would I OS if I try to add a pair of otos? If not, i'll just add my columbian ramshorn from my 10G or my 2 ghost shrimp.

Just a warning, I don't know if all aqua tech tanks are like this or not but, I used to have the aqua tech 5g hex and after a month the light quit on me. So I got a new light socket and then 2 weeks later the filter died. Just completely stopped for no apparant reason. By the time I bought a new filter to replace the in-hood filter that had died, I might as well have gotten a better tank. Was that just me?

To answer your question, a 5g hex is probably too small for ottos since they are so active. Snails or shrimp would be the best IMO.

really? I guess i'll get the 5G bowfront and buy a compact flourescent for it.
could I have otos if I got the minibow 5G?

With a bowfront you could probably do a couple of ottos.
more than 2?

No 2 would be max with 4 rasbora's
i'm moving my betta into the tank, not the rasboras.

even with a betta, 2 otos in a 5G bow front would still pose too large of a bioload and too small of an area for otos.
really? I know a guy who has 2 otos in his 5G with his betta.
