it looks nice but i think you are OS,the tetras and swordtail need about ten gals, other than that it looks nice.a goood stocking would be a betta some endlers and ghost shrimp.

Thanks for the input -
I figured I might be pusing the stocking a little, that's why I added the plants originally. I'm doing water changes ~40% every other week & I change the carbon in the filter bag (which I stuff) on alternate changes.

I may move the sword home once I get my 46 going. I've just started feeding the plants w/ Kent Plant Pro (I still need to get the iron supplement) and I'm thinking of doing a 1 gallon yeast CO2 gen.

A PetSmart guy said I should get rid of the snails as they will multiply... I like them so far (but am suspicious about them eating my plants as they've pretty well taken all algae).

I'm not a big betta fan.

No glass - plastic.

I think that all your fish would be very happy in the 46 gal, like i said, endlers are great for a five gal,you will have to give some fry away or just ger males,in case you dont know what endlers are here are some pics of the males.

\/\/00T!

1/2 gal milk jug yeast reactor going overnight, pH down 0.68!

Wed. PM I brought a water sample to LFS, pH~8 via color test kit (guy said tapwater pH is high). Some ammonia, no nitr.

Thu. AM, 25% water change w/ >18M-Ohm water. pH actually up 0.1 (7.7 before, 7.8 after via pH meter

).
Thu. PM, started CO2 gen. feeding a good airstone just below filter intake.
Fri. AM, 2-3 hair-thin streams of CO2 bubbles going under filter, pH 7.12 via meter.

I also removed the plastic beneath the PC as it was getting pretty crusty. I'll clean up the reflector next week. I'm hopin gto feel the need to add an updated pic then too. I suspect that tha ammonia reading may have been due to the Plant Pro (I still need to get the iron supplement). I'll try to get another spl tested omw home tonight (as I continue to search for a LFS that carries Eheim & Ebo-Jaeger stuff so I can put 'em on my xmas list along w/ the t8/t12 dbl bulb 36" fixture knocked down to $54 at another LFS).

Nice Squawk !

Like BG said...endlers are a great little fish and would be very comfy in a 5 if you choose to move out the fish you have in there. I have a 2gallon planted "Explorer" tank with a nice little tribe of endlers. It's a lowlight/NO light tank and I don't dose it with anything....best tank I've ever had for ease of maintenance....not a speck of algae....EVER !

Here's a pic of mine....

That's the back of a mousepad behind the tank....lol.....stuck it back there just to take the pic.

^My daughter has an AC Frog in one of those^ - nice tank-

Well, NH3 is back to ~0ppm but pH is still >7.5 so I've disconnected the air pump for now. If CO2 doesn't move pH overnight, I'll start (very slowly) adding H3PO4. I found another snail this AM (that's 5 now).

I'll have to see if any of my LFSs carry endlers (I can't recall having seen any).
It seems that only one LFS anywhere in the area carries Eheim. I guess I'll have to try to get Santa to shop online...

Overnight w/o air pump seem sto be working - fish look OK, pH down to 6.66. Now if I could just find a timer around here so I could go ~16 hours of light per day... (I'm currently just running the 10w PC while I'm at work).

Updated pic

Bad news: the sword died a couple of weeks ago when I moved the tank home for the holidays.

Good news: Tetras are fine & look at the crypt now!

also - you can see the timers (1 for air pump, 1 for lights) and (unfortunately) the CO2 diffuser in front of the filter (works better there than under the intake).
