I have to say, when I read the title I laughed (5gal) but it looks really nice. It would be a perfect shrimp tank too. I was surprised at how much I enjoy my red cherry shrimp!

Nice work!

You're tank is looking good, however, a 5 is going to be too small for platys. They get to be 2" 4 platies would almost double the 1 inch of fish per gallon. I've got 4 in my 25 gallon, the big female is the size of my dwarf gourami. And if you aren't careful and end up with 2 males in that 5 with 1 or 2 female... look out. They are also fairly messy fish with hefty bioload for their size.

I've got a planted 5 cycling now for a dwarf puffer, neat little guys. But that's all that's going in the tank, well maybe a couple ghost shrimp to clean up after it, or maybe be a snack, depending on the puffer...
I'd love to have a 5 gallon invert tank, but I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would kill me, as we're just about out of room as it is..

1" per gallon is a load of hewey*, but I agree it's too small for platys. Guppies, yes.

*because volume increases with not with length but with its cube.

i've got a 10 gallon with 3 dwarf puffers and they are awesome. you could go with one in that setup, or with a few neons like you wanted to. tank looks good though

i would say tetras or guppies.

the tank looks good so far. i could imagine some hairgrass in there maybe?

also, how exactly does that corner filter work? i know its kinda like a sponge filter but what goes in the box? do you just put your own media in there?
