6 gallon tank?

You can convince him! You really should be able to set up a 10 gallon for not too much money, it's easy to care for and you can have a betta with a few cories, just like you want :)

I have exactly the same setup you are talking about. Its a Marineland 6 gallon Hex tank. I bought it for approx $49 USD at Petsmart. (overpaid I know). It is just for my Betta (I wanted to get him out of my big tank with strong filter). He only tolerates cories and shrimp as tankmates, but really likes it. He is on the kitchen counter (great for that shape tank unlike a long 10 gallon). I highly recommend the setup. I have a small in tank heater and the smallest BioWheel filter and they are both perfect for that tank. Also, with a few plants I did have to get a flourescent light bulb as the plants started dying. Go for it if its a good deal! Just don't overload it!

Thanks BobandFiona, you have almost turned me round again! Don't think your tank was overpriced, Not compared to our prices anyway!

The tank would be on the kitchen worksurface, like yours! Plenty of room, used to have my 2 foot there! Whats in my mind is the kitchen is cold in winter, no heater in there but the tank would have one.

I don't know what a Biowheel is, I'm not sure if we have them in the Uk, could you explain what it is? I already have a small fluval 1 sponge filter, but it would create a current.

Great ideas everyone, thanks a lot and I'm working on my husband, cos he wants a Betta and doesn't understand why I can't put one in my main tank. :duh:

i agree with the folks who told you not to put the corys in there-they need a group and you're going to have a massive bioload for the tank if you have an apropriate size group in that tank

i just bought a 6.5 gallon for my new betta- i paid $50.00 US for it- came w/ filter, hood and light

I've got a snail in the tank now and i want to add an african dwarf frog but i don't know what they eat or how much they add to the bioload-

there are lots of cool creatures you can have that are small - don't get a clawed frog though i've beeen told they'll go after your fish- with plants amano shrimp are brilliant b/c they keep you plants clean of algae really well- and the snail will keep the glass clean

i'm rambling- sorry, i''ll stop now

Hi Kyle3,

I have 2 ADFs, they are adorable, but they also have very bad eyesight and take a long time to find their food (bloodworms). I know some people keep ADFs with bettas but I would be concerned that the bettas would scarf down all the bloodworms before the ADFs found them.

There's a good frog message board, http://talkto.thefrog.org/ where you can learn more about ADFs.
