i have been planning for a couple of weeks the live stock for this tank. and so far here is what i am thinking of getting

yellow tang
flame angel
2 clownfish
yellow watchman goby
purple firefish
blue spotted jawfish

questions that i have is do you think all these fish's will get along well. should i re think about getting any of these fish's. the ones that i am double thinking if i should get or not is the purple firefish just because they tend to hide a lot. and the blue spotted jawfish because i heard they are very hard to keep and that they seem to die out of no were. any input or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

My Purple fire fish is out all the time. not sure about the blue spotted watchman but my yellow watchman did very well. As most people will tell you the tang should be in a 6ft long tank.

The yellow tang should be fine depending on the size, if you go with a small yellow tang then it should be fine and they are very personal =)

A small yellow tang will only stay small for 3-6 months. They grow very fast. While I would be the first to admit I would consider myself one of the "tang police" and say they must be in a 6' tank I don't know what effects a hex or round tank would have on a tang, if it would make it more suitable being smaller but round as long as the tang could swim around it 360 degrees, meaning just a center rock scape. All the other fish on your list sound good together in that size tank, just me personally, I would pick a nice wrasse instead of a tang. ;)

Just do not get a six line and the purple fire fish. the six line i had tortured my purple fire fish. I now have a christmas wrasse and it is as friendly as can be. It might of been my luck with the 6 line tho.

Naw, I think your experience is more the "norm" with 6 lines.. they can be aggressive little buggers for sure. I should have mentioned to avoid that one... yellow coris wrasse is nice, as are all Leopard wrasses IMO, but flasher/fairy wrasses are the most common peaceful wrasses, albiet known jumpers.

I have to agree with Ace, I would not add the Yellow Tang and would opt for a wrasse as well.

ok i know now that i can't get a yellow tang for this tank. i have been looking for the past couple of days to see what other fish i like and can be a possibility to put in this tank and i came upon the copperband butterflyfish. i know he is a very difficult fish to keep but i plan on keeping in stock multiple food for him. because i know they can be picky eaters. i was planning on ordering one at liveaquaria.com. what do you guys think about this fish in my tank? it says it needs a 50 gallon tank. also it says it needs to be with very peaceful fish. i wanted to get a flame angelfish but i know that they can be semi aggressive and i don't want the copperband to die from being stressed. what do you think about keeping these two fish together. of course if i get these two fish the flame angel will be the last fish i would put in the tank

They are just hard to acclimate and get a healthy one but if it is from Liveaquaria your chances are much higher getting a good one. I think it is a good alternative to a tang for your tank.

There is a chance the flame angel may be a harass the butterfly but I think you are more likely to get a friendly one. First few days when introduced there will be some chasing no matter what.. it just comes down to if the angel lets off after a day or 2 or gets worse and starts pinning the butterfly in a corner. Only way to know though is to try it.

if i get the butterflyfish i plan on putting him first in the tank. so he can get well adjusted to the tank without having other fish bullying it. another thing is i am also scared about putting the flame angel in a reef tank. i heard it is a 50/50 chance but i don't know if i want to take that chance
