600gal plywood build.

I realllly hope that corner reconstruction doesn't support any weight!! carefull!

It supports all of teh load that would normally be absorbed by that corner... the oak and the 2" screw spacing make it stronger than the other seams in the tank, so I don't anticipate any issues.

Small update this aft. I know I'll regret doing this, but I'm a bit anal and I like the things I build to be finished from all angles.... even if the angle is up against the wall. So, I spread a coat of resin with bulking filler across the outside of the back panel of the tank to fill in the crappy texture on the exterior plywood. This means I have a lot of square feet to blocksand now :(. I did this on my last tank build though and I'm glad I did. i don't have to worry about water damage or mold on the back of the tank due to splashing. or condensation or whatever. I won't be filling and sanding the tank bottom, but I will spray it with polyester as well, because if moisture is going to creep anywhere and stay hidden, it'll be under the tank.

Nice. Heck of a thread.

Unfortunately we're really in the middle of the tedious and ugly phase of the project here. I've done more fiberglass, that still needs to be trimmed and sanded. I gelcoated the back of the beast black, and I spread a bunch of polyester filler on the inside of the back panel to fill in the crappy exterior grade plywood texture.

Pfft. Not even one reply. Plywood tank build have become so passe since I did my last one :p

Sprayed the bottom with some blue tinted polyester to seal it against any mopisture that might creep under the tank. I love my spraygun :p. I also did some sanding and some more fiberglass in the tank, but nothing photoworthy.

Looking good!

Small update tonight... lots of elbow grease sanding down the filler on the back panel, and I sprayed on the first interior coat of gelcoat (just on the back panel). This will get sanded and filled some more, I just wanted a feel for how badly small imperfections would show through the gelcoat.

I also shot a little bit on the unfinished fiberglass around the top rim to see how that would come out if I don't fill/sand it. I think it will be OK that way, might just need to lay it on a bit thicker than I did in this pic.

Another pic of the unfinished fiberglass top in the corner. I need to fill and sand the little radius in the corner that I made with some 1/4" chopped strand glass. The blue spraypaint marks bubbles I found during trimming and rough sanding that need some TLC.
