65 gallon planted tank. progress and pics!

Awesome tank!!! Can't wait until I get mine back to that status.

Where in manhattan are you? I work on 51st and park and have been going to this great place for fish for years on e.38th st between 2nd and 3rd ave called new world aquarium. If you haven't been there before, I would definitely recommend it. Great selection, the only store I could ever find yo-yo loaches at.
 
Don't even kid around with that hair algae! To answer the questions...My best brooklyn LFS is on 65th st near the BQE entrance in bensonhurst. Not that its huge, but what they have is quality. if you buy 10 Cardinals, then close to 10 cardinals will live. They have some hard to get plants too. But you can go to Pacific aquarium on delancy st., in manhattan, near the Williamsburg Bridge and get good stuff too. The new world Aquarium in manhattan, on 38th and second is the gold standard, but they cost twice as much as everyone else. In addition, the smaller fish have a high death rate. (cichlids are good though). If you speak to the salesman at the register, (not the owner) he has a tendency to make believe he knows about things that he doesn't. So if you have an important question, speak to the boss. For lighting i have 4 65w flourescents with a fan in the fixture, with no top on the tank. I like all the spots you mentioned, and agree about new world. nice fish, but crazy expensive. I had been going to tien wei on 65th weekly, but felt like she sort of fell off at the end of the summer, and had less of a selection... I like Pacific, on delancy, those guys have really given me loads of advice and are really fun to talk to... but they're pretty expensive too. my new favorite is Win aquarium on Mott street. That place is awesome. the fish are so nice, their tanks are spotless... and the prices are LOW. very very LOW.
