Well.. after much research I scratched my idea of trying to run the 55 gallon sumpless. I'm just going to buy a new tank :)

I'm able to purchase this 65 gallon for a good price, what do you guys think? Good purchase? will plumbing and all that be okay for this tank or does it look like it's going to be a hassle.

All input is welcome, thanks!

That's a great size and shape for a reef tank.

Sounds good,

What kinda of overflow system do you guys think I should try to run..

Herbie/Durso?

It depends upon the application. Herbie drains are good for higher flow rates as well as feeding skimmers via overflow, since it eliminates bubbles.

Just courious, what kind of aquascaping would you guys do? My first SW reef tank is same size and I've been struggling with the scaping. I currently have the "China's Great Wall" scaping. Once my son goes to bed tonight, I was going to try two mounds in the back corners and have them extend overlapping, one infront of the other, forming a valley.

Well I just want a quiet system, I've heard that the Durso is quiet in the overflow but can be quite loud leading into the sump, and even caping it with a T to let the bubbles out doesn't work out to well.

This is going to be the first time I plumb a tank, I just want the best system setup

Well I ended up buying this system.. so plumbing is going to be the first step..

Any ideas for what type of system I should try to run

What's a durso? What's a T-cap? Ya water flow is pretty loud...can be calming though sometimes.
