65g stocking list

I'd go ahead with the mandarin if you can rig up a h.o.t fuge you'll be ok. There are nice ones by cpr and some acrylic ones by some sellers on ebay that are nice too. A good fuge and you'll be just fine.
Even the gold head sleeper goby, very pretty, should be better in a pair as I've read.

Very nice mysis.

Blue green chromis stand out mostly under metal halide, looking not as brilliant under pc light. I fell in love with blue green chromis but only under metal halide...just a thought. And so much more impressive in a group too.

Okay, you guys convinced me :)
I bought Sam a partner today. Sam is a white barred maroon, the new fish is a goldbar. I posted over on reefcentral, no one replied when I asked if the two would work. I sure hope so, they're technically the same species so I'm crossing my fingers. He's only a little over an inch long, Sam is probably close to 2" with her tail included. I guess we'll see :)

ADD --> Got an answer over on rc, apparantly they should pair up just fine :D

Well, while I was at work today Sam killed the new maroon. My poor husband peeled him off the PH intake and tried to revive him by putting him into the 5.5 tank but there was no hope. He's devastated, thinks he did something wrong. Tonight Sam has a NASTY attitude; she bit my hand when I added a few cleaners and the piece of LR that I brought home. I guess we learned our lesson, she'll be a loner from now on since it seems that's how she wants it.

On a happier note, here's a FTS of the tank tonight. I think it finally looks finished :)

I told you this would happen, why not sell "sam" and go for ocellaris clowns or percula, they are much nicer and suit a community aquarium.

I'm so sorry and surprised to hear that Sam has an evil streak. If you try again, get a maroon that's larger than Sam. Perhaps the one you had was a juvenile and instead of falling in love, she saw it as competition for territory.
The tanks looks lovely.
I'm out for another tomato to pair with Tomateeya lol. Wish me luck!

I read an article the other day that stated on average captive raised clowns were 6 - 9 months old when purchased as opposed to wild caught where it is not uncommon to recieve one thats between 6 - 12 years old this is due to the fact that they stay small when males of the lower order! this could be the case with you but i'm not sure

You stated that maroons get agressive as they age, but nowhere did you indicate that trying to pair her up would be a bad idea. I'm quite sad about what happened, 'I told you so' doesn't help at all. I happen to love maroons, I'm not a fan of ocellaris or percs. I bought her knowing she might turn into a big jerk, just had no reason to expect this outcome judging from her previous behaviour. She is what she is, and I love her anyway.

SF - Thanks for the kind words. I'm don't think I'm going to try again - at $40-$50CD it would not only be heartbreaking but expensive if another clown met the same end. Good luck with your tomato, if it works out let me know how you did it and maybe I'll get brave :)

Mooch - I'm in Toronto, howdy neighbor :) The only place I could get you a deal would be at PJ's Yorkdale, where I work. Honestly, a lot of our LR isn't spectacular, but we do have some nice pieces on occasion. I'm off until January so if you're looking now my advice is to go to Big Al's - I've found some good rock there (Scarborough location) but it's often uncured because they sell so much it doesn't have a chance to sit around in the store for a few weeks. If I'm not mistaken, there are a few good shops in Brampton. I'd get some rock from a few locations, that way you might get more variety of shapes and life.
