I was in the process of setting up a new 10 gallon when my heater decided to take a crap. The current temp on the 10 gallon is 68*F. Is that too cold to house some dwarf cories for a couple days until my new heater arrives?

What temp are they at now, and where? If it's only a matter of a couple of days I would say leave them where they are until the heater comes in.

Never had cories myself but most fish (most creatues for that matter) seem able adapt to a few degrees up or down provided they have enough time to adjust. They do it in the wild after all. If the tank as a whole heats up or cools down over a few days they'll adapt along with it.

If you just took them straight from a tank at, say, 78 and put them into 68 degree water however, this might shock them enough to do harm. Or even kill them...like I said I don't know cories' level of sensitivity and should shut up until an expert on the matter arrives. If one is not indeed writing even as I speak. :)

If you don't have the cories yet I would hold off untill you get your heater. If you already have them I would not feed untill you get the heater. Also don't open the hood if you can avoid it, you want to try to keep the temp as stable as possible.

Well, looks like the cories are going to stay put anyway. Fedex just delayed delivery a couple days...no idea why.

I have one tank that I keep at 75 and another that hovers around 69-70. Both have small shoals of Habrosus corys. I cannot see a difference in behavior, feeding or shoaling between the two. Both are equally active and have similar tankmates. I know very little about the species-- just telling you about my observations.

Can you leave the tank light on until the heater arrives?
