6x9 speaker installing?

i measured the speakers when i took them out, and they measured at 5x7, but i can can check again. and with the adapter i showed in the posts above, raises the speaker a bit, and makes it fit, there will be baffles behind them.

Well I will say it again, Ford has used 6x8's for over 20 yrs and have never used 5x7's. But I guess you can go ahead and spend your money if you would like but don't be pissed when you see that the 5x7 adaptors don't fit right.

The below info is from metraonline.com, a major player in the accessory adaptor industry.

after measuring them. the distance of the opening, measures in at 5x7, from the website that im looking at that sells door speakers, it says that 5x7 as well as 6x8s are the stock sizes in ford vehicles.

when i measured the speaker. the speaker was almost 8inches long but only around 5 and quarter inches wide. with the actual cone being 7inch by like, 4 and a half.

so technically what is it? cuz im getting 2 different measurements.

ive tried using the metraonline, but for some reason my macbook goes nuts when i try to use the vehicle search. its done this on every website that searches cars. im not sure why, but ive yet to find a car search engine that doesnt **** this computer off.

It's amazing when someone will ask a question and you give them an answer but yet they question your answer. If the metraonline doesn't not work for you try http://www.crutchfield.ca/Car_Audio_Video_s/51.htm. You can input your vehicle info and it will tell you the same thing that I have explained already as well as you can go in and see how long that Ford has used the "6x8s". Unless someone has installed a different spkr than what came stock it is a 6x8. Have you considered picking up the phone and calling a local stereo shop?

i live in the sticks lol there isnt really an audio store as far as i know within a good distance. ive read that some 5x7 and 6x8s can go in the same size basket. not sure how but i guess technically it can be either one. so now do i have to find a different adapter for the basket. oh and technically its not a basket i dont think. its kind of just more like a bracket to hold it. so theres plenty of depth for them.

some companies do have a speaker that is somewhat universal to fit 6x8s / 5x7s. the way they do this is that on 1 end there are 2 mounting holes and on the other end there are 4 holes.
I am curious , it sounds like youare trying to mount the spkr from the top. Is this true? If so why not mount them from the bottom and use a simple wood spacer as mentioned by another poster earlier? Especially for the $40 you will spend on the adaptors not to mention that the spkr will sound better with the wood plate because it will be a more solid mounting.

ummmm. can you show me? im kind of confused as to what you mean by with wood. ive never thought of puting them in upsidedown. i believe that would fit perfectly....

I am not sure where I led you to think I meant "upside down". What I meant was to mount them from underneath the rear deck sheet metal instead of top loaded between the sheet metal and the rear deck. The wood spacer would be slightly larger than the 6x9 speakers outside dimensions. You would then cut out the 6x9 hole (most 6x9s have a cutout template), the drill the mounting hole locations, drop the studs thru and tighten the nuts so the don't push thru (should have been in the hardware pack). drill 4 small holes for mounting the trim ring to your vehicle rear deck. I would drill these holes thru the sheet metal also and use bolts, lockwashers and nuts here also. You may need to hit up a hardware store for these unless you have some. Look for 1/4" or just slightly smaller. This may seem like a pain but it will be well worth the work.
The reason you don't want to just screw them in below the deck without a spacer is because the 6x8 factory hole would interfere with the speaker foam surround and keep the speaker from freely moving.

i think i get what your saying. ill get some pictures of the basket to show you what im working with.
