it sounds like you're trying to ID your gourami based on color. IMO, with fish like dwarf gouramis who have such a vast range in color from all the selective breeding done within the species, its just easier to ID based on body type. it sounds as if you are describing some sort of color morph of a dwarf. I also doubt an opaline or blue would tolerate a betta sharing the same strata in their tank.

is it a shorter, stocky fish? or is it a little longer and leaner? how large is it? if its over 2.5", I'd be willing to bet it was an opaline or blue, but if its around there or under, then its probably a dwarf.

Actually, ADA in SF, CA had like 6 of these and the largest was 4", and it is definitely not an opaline, i saw these giant opalines/blues at SFs academy of sciences and they were like 7"!:) All of the ones in ADA were exactly the same color and shade and same body, they max out at 4".

flat like a discus?

I had to go back a while but I knew there was a picture of the gourami somewhere

okay, but i think u guys are right, BUT for some weird reason, the others i saw at ADA were 3" and 4", and they were labeled as the same fish and in the same tanks

Maybe the big one was just a giant fish? We have giant humans, why not fish the same way? We need some pics, btw.
