75 Gallon Upgrade! Woo Hoo!

Julido's are funny like that, when i first introduced my 5 marlier in my 55gal tank 3 made it and i had a pair bond with the lone marlieri hiding all the time.. they really beat the crap out of others as well..

Now as for my 120gal i have J. marlieri, ornatus and dickfieldi and all have enough room to break away from aggression and it works out..

I would say yes it should work if not you can send the extra one to me heheehe..

If she goes in the main tank she's probably not coming out for awhile. I shudder at the thought of dragging all that rock out of there to catch a Juli. I'm leaning toward just doing the pair; the female should have plenty of room to escape his advances if she needs to.

The Calvus are very interested in each other again. All three rub and nip at each other at the same time. I'm seriously considering adding one white male Calvus and one Black female and hope they figure it out. I would think their first perference would be of the their own color varient, at least for the females. I'd have to remove the gold calvus though, and my wife is rather attached to " Luther ".

If it doesn't work out with the leftover female I'll send her to ya in part trade for the Multis.

cool deal man, you name your fish!! afro afro, hehehe..

yeah it would be weird to see my gold calvus and black calvus spawn..

My wife names the fish, hence her attachment, lol. When we first got together, I had a tank full of Mbuna. They were all named Fred except for one, who was Bob. She found this ridiculous and from then on my naming priveledges have been revoked. I makes it a pain though when I have to inform her that her beloved fish needs to be rehomed. It's easier when it's obvious ( a fish that is terrorizing the rest, etc. ), but when it's just a matter of preference she gets upset.
If I can convince her to let me swap the gold Calvus out, we have a shot at breeding both white and black pure strains. We could make some side cash or at least swap for some food that way. No way am I selling or trading mixed variants. I'm sure my gold is mixed anyway, as he shows some washed out colors. Plus, he's starting to become more and more active in the spawning behavior, and the male black pretty much tolerates him... a bit of a threesome going on.

Aye, I can't wait to see that! :thm:

Me too, man. Might be awhile, though. I found a dealer who can get them for me here, but they are expensive. I just spent some cash on the Julies ( @ $8 each it wasn't a bad deal, ), so she's going to balk a bit at me spending more. After the tank and the stock, we're looking at over $500.00 invested in this tank so far. I think that's reasonable considering the equipment and livestock we've got, but she sees it as a money pit. Selling fry and trading for food has helped, but it's still an expensive hobby to start up. I just need the Cyps and there will be no more money spent on livestock!

Julies are a PITA to catch IME...:irked:

That's exactly why I want to be sure I want an extra female hanging around before I add them to the main tank. EVERYTHING would have to come out of there to catch her. I'd rather have a pair that will tolerate each other and not have to worry about the aggression. Plus, with 2 Julies and the Cyps, I think I'll be maxing out my territories. There are plenty of caves left to accommodate a pair of Julies, but I think 3 might be pushing it. The Calvus have their territories established, and the Sexi and Tret are happy as long as they can squeeze in somewhere when they feel threatened. I have the Brichardi juvies still but they'll be coming out when they reach sexual maturity. So there would really only be 5 rock dwellers eventually, and I have the structure laid out so that there are breaks in the rock formations. Hopefully this will keep the Julies from claiming the entire rock structure. I guess I'll just have to take it slowly. I've been lucky with aggression in this tank and I'd like to keep it this way. The 55 was overstocked and I don't want to make that mistake here.

hehehe no more money spent on fish yeah that's a good one Ethan.. i tell my wife the same thing..

This is a expensive hobby yay..
