Nice tank. That driftwood is almost crying out for some java fern/anubias. I feel its pain :)

Since your going compressed CO2 you might as well get that tank stuffed full of plants (easy stems). One thing I've learned is a really heavily planted tank from the outset is far easier to get established. When things start to get going, swap out for more desirable plants. You'll get some nice reds under that light.

The Orbit lights are usually 4*65w. Are you sure yours is 4*55?

Well done! I love to see more people going planted :thm:

Hrm, yes, but anubias are African plants. None in Malaysia or that area. Java fern, definitely and I have lots of that kicking around. Java moss is from the Phillipines, but I'm having trouble sourcing Monosolenium tenerum, which is "moss-like" and can be attached to driftwood and rocks.

Java moss I'll use until and IF I can find the tenerum. Bolbitus heudelotii I've on order and will be placing that on the driftwood. Wish me luck with the bolbitus. It's hard to maintain :)

Yep! I've got the following on order:

Myriophyllum tuberculatum (Red Foxtail)
Cryptocoryne ciliata
Cryptocoryne crispatula
Lilaeopsis novae-zelandiae (Micro Sword)
Glossostigma elatinoides (there's some in the forground already)
Vallisneria caulescens (gorgeous red val!)
Rotala Rotundifolia
Marsilea crenata
Hygrophila difformis (Wisteria)

All of those are either Malaysian, Australian or South East Asia.

ROFL! Fixing :)

Thanks! I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Last night I set up one of my 10 gallons all ready for plants!

Thanks, everyone!

As of this morning the readings on the tank are:

pH 7.4
Temp 75.3
KH 1
GH 7.5
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 20

Looks like the driftwood has socked the heck out of my KH. I've coral in the Magnum, but it'll take a while for it to dissolve. Going to wait to inject CO2 until the KH bumps a bit. Too dangerous at that level.

It looks good but the rocks look weird because they are very bright and stand out too much. Maybe its just the way it looks in the picture i guess.

I've always had best luck with bolbitis when there's a little bit of flow around it. Great plant but slow, slow, slow at growing. Then one day you will discover that you suddenly have so much the rhizomes are growing around each other.

Exactly! I put my driftwood in a "line" because I can aim the Magnum outflow over it and hopefully that will do the current trick.

Rainbows love current as well and I'm glad I have them in their own tank. Two of my females spend their entire day in the current. Many of the specie I had with them didn't like a lot of current and it was hard trying to keep them all happy.

What are the floating plants on the left ? I know some of you can just look at a pic and know what plant it is - but i just cant. :(

Oh, ROFL! It's just water sprite. There's some anacharis in the left corner and some more sprite in the right corner. Those will all be coming out when the new plants get here.

I floated and planted the sprite (I borrowed it from the goldfish patch that I have for them to eat) and anacharis to make sure I had enough nitrate/ammonia loving plants to help with any water problems during the startup period.

Why, thank you!

By the way, I DID get some riccia, like you did, and am floating it in Jaker's tank. Really nice!

OH! In the foreground of the new tank pics on the left and right -- the little mounds of green? I hairnetted riccia to some plexiglass I broke up and buried the non-planted parts in the substrate. I'll probably replace it with more gloss, but for now I think it looks cool :)

Got the idea from djlen in the Plants forum.

Thats nice indeed. But i cant really do that in my betta tank - just not enough light - so this has to wait for the bigger tank.
I am also a little worried using any type of string/ net/ fishingline in the tank. Do you think there could be any danger to the fish when using hairnets ? (i know this Q is kinda ridiculous - seeing that you used it and from reading all your posts its obvious you dont do things that could harm them in anyway) :duh:
