Thats nice indeed. But i cant really do that in my betta tank - just not enough light - so this has to wait for the bigger tank.
I am also a little worried using any type of string/ net/ fishingline in the tank. Do you think there could be any danger to the fish when using hairnets ? (i know this Q is kinda ridiculous - seeing that you used it and from reading all your posts its obvious you dont do things that could harm them in anyway) :duh:
Hannys_Papa -- re: Hair nets and Riccia
I've changed my mind about the safety factor of hair nets. The rock that I hair netted in my 36g is fine, I used a "Goody" hair net, which isn't really fine and was able to tie it down really tight. You can't see the net anymore and it's not a danger to the fish. No danger of it coming loose. Mental note to take a picture and post it for you
BUT -- the riccia I netted onto the plexi glass is dangerous. I have removed it all from my tank. Because the object I netted is flat, I can't get it to stay tied down no matter how hard I try. It lifts and that's all it take for a fish to pry it up even more and get caught in it. One of my little Goos almost got caught up in it
So, if you are netting an entire piece, like a rock, and can get the net right around it REALLY tight, then it's safe. But if it's a flat piece or one that you cannot totally enclose with the net and pull it tight, I wouldn't do it.
This isn't to say that it won't work, just that *I* cannot get it to work and my fish are too important for me to risk something just because it looks cool.
Another way to do this if it's something you want to try but are worried about the fish, is to net the rock/whatever with the riccia and put it in an empty high-light QT or hospital tank. Once the riccia grows through the net, you can take it out a test it and see for yourself if it's safe enough.
Gonna PM you this post as well so you know.
