yeah Gary is a big snail...you should see him when he's all stretched out! :thud: and to think when I stole him from wal-mart he was only the size of my pinkie nail! haha
As for the magnum question... I absolutely love mine. It's extremely quiet too. We have a recliner sitting about three feet away from the tank and the only noise you hear is the fish smacking the top of the water at dinner time. It's really easy to keep clean and all that fun stuff. I'd recommend one in no time...just make sure you get the bio-wheels and pro kleener (gravel vacuum) kit with it..they definitely come in handy!
