75Gal Goldie tank - high nitrates

Thanks Lenny!!
I can see I will be doing a LOT of reading this weekend!! Looking forward to it! I really do want to understand this all better than I do.

PS...My goldies were the only fish to go through a set up cycle. By the time I learned about fishless cycling their initial 30gal had already cycled. The 75gal they are in now took me about 6 months to cycle, fishless, as well as the other 5 tanks. After I learned what they went through I vowed to never put another fish through that :)

Remember that if you ever clone or move your 75G into a larger tank, if you move the gravel, decorations and filter system from one tank to another tank, the new tank will be almost completely and fully cycled from scratch. If you are moving half your fish to a new tank, then move half of the filter media to the new tank and that will go a BIG step towards having the tank fully cycled since most of the nitrifying bacteria are in the filter media. For folks with UGF filters, that media would be the gravel but for canister and HOB filters, most of the N-bacteria live in the filter media of those filter systems.

We also have a 75g goldfish tank. Our parameters are good. What we have is a Rena XP3 and two Penguin 350 Bio-Wheel HOBs (with super cartridge biomedia non-replaceable filters). However, I do weekly 75% water changes. Best of luck. Goldies are such cute fish.
