I have a 31 Gallon Rubbermaid (filled up 3/4) I use for feeder fish. I have a 12" lamp on top, like the kind they sell for reptiles. I put a 75w CFL in there now, but I imagine I could use much higher like 100w at least.

Would this be enough for anacharis or another low light plant?

(Inside are currently feeder comet goldfish)
Filtration is a large sponge filter with 30g bubbler

well its not really 75w. its the same as a 75w incandescent bulb. look on the package it will say how many watts it really is. i have seen them as high as 27w. i would look for them in daylight. that will be your best chance.

that is if we are talking about the same thing.

Yep :grinyes:
It's a GE Soft White 20w (75w eq)
Would this be enough for Anacharis?

I could bump up to 100w eq (probl 25-30w)

I've seen 42W bulbs, but they're enormous and I've only seen them in Soft White, not Daylight. I have some Anacharis in my tank with, hm, an 18W fluorescent tube, and two clip-on laps with 27W CF Daylight bulbs, and I'm seeing a little (little) growth after about a week even after a bleach bath.

My main concern is that the bass of the CFLs are very wide, and fit quite snug into the lamp. The lamp has a ceramic end, but it is a tight fit.

Then again, it is designed to handle up to 250w reg Lamps for reptiles

I was able to get a 27w (100weq) CFL today 6,500K
Quite large, and very powerful for a Screw-in
($10 from lighting store)
