thanks, I am fairly new at this. I had a tank as a kid, but mom and pop did most of the work. About how many fish can I keep in a tank this size? I also looking for a source for black gravel. The only thing I can find has bits of pink, yellow, blue, etc. I want just plain black.

A 26 inches cube is pretty interesting. The problem would be the height. For that type of tank, 15-20 2-3 cm tetras (two species can work) would work. If you want tetras at 2-2.5 inches (mid section), stick with only 10-15. Penguin tetras, bloodfins and glass bloodfins (all growing at 6 cm) are the only surface dwellers in the list so you still have options for the mid section. Check Rachel's post.

You can try the smaller species of plecos for bottom or corydoras. Clown plecs, ancistrus plecs and Hemiloricaria sp. should work. It's up to you with corydoras although I'd definitely stick with Corydoras panda or Corydoras pygmaeus which is even smaller.:)

Thanks for the advise. This is a very tall tank. It is much larger than I pictured when I started building it. I am now worried about getting an air pump that will push air that deep. I have a custom 14 gallon half octagon with 2 corries, 4 male guppies, a few neon tetras, two ghost shrimp, and a small turtle(red-eared slider).

I wouldn't be too sure about RES getting along with fish and shrimps.:eek3:
