8g Betta and ??

I would do something like a small group of Neon Tetras, Ember Tetras, White Cloud Minnows, Pygmy Corries or something of that size, there are a LOT of little fish out there that will be fine with the betta-if he is nice! Remember if it is live planted you have have a little bit larger school. Good luck and keep us posted with any more questions and pictues once you have them!:D

I disagree with the Neons... I had 4 in with a betta once and one disappeared daily. The beta thought they were a snack. A couple lemon tetras or another that is a bit larger than neons maybe

I can see that and that is the reason that I not only put depending on the temperament of the Betta, but I also put in there Ember Tetras-or also Lemons, Black Neons, Glo-Light...that is more the shape and size of Tetras that I would suggest:)

it would work... day 1: serpaes pick on betta, betta then strikes all of them, he is now mob boss, everyone fine
It could work. The serpaes will still harassed the poor fish until it succumbs to death.

Err, guys...so what's the upto date advice??

Also depending on the temperment of the beta, you could go with some shrimp.

Well I would say 5 Corries OR 5-7 fish of that size and shape of the following; Ember, Lemon, or Glo-Light Tetras, Black Neons, White Cloud Minnows, Rasboras... If you choose to go the Tetras(or others like them) you could possibly go with say...3 Otos also--ONCE the tank is up and running and it has some algea in it.

And remember when you put live plants in it you have a better chance of your fish doing very well and being happy!:)

well it worked for me... but i can definitely see your point... i think my betta may have little man syndrome, i had to take him out of the larger fish tank cuz he was beating on my sev and angel but he completely ignores my tetras

It's not the possibility that bettas can beat up smaller tankmates. It's the fact serpae tetras are nippy in nature and will nip anyone within their reach.

I agree with Lupin here...Bettas can be kept with lil' guys for the most part-but Serpaes can be VERY nippy!!
