90 gal Craigslist find/project

That's looking good! You still planning on the resealing of the inside seams? Found some GE I silicon at wal-mart for around $3.25 a tube for clear. Used it to reseal the back of my 29 and it has worked great. Don't know of you'll need something more hardcore for the 90.

The GE silicone should be good since I'm not going to disturb the structural seam that's between the plates of glass, just the corener bit that makes sure that the water doesn't penetrate to the structural seam. I'm going to do a test first though to see if I even need to reseal it.

On another note, I've still been dumping extra food into the empty QT to "feed" the filter. The "pure" ammonia I found at the store all has a surfactant in it, I'm guessing sodium hydroxide, but I can't find any data on it. Any ideas on if it's ok?

Ooooh <.< if that Turtle wax does that good for a fish tank I know what I'll be doing the next warm day we have. Free 55 I got has scale so bad that vinegar doesn't even dent it. Did you have to rinse that off for a while after using it or just a damp cloth?

Just a damp cloth, although I found that it does help to scrape the thicker bits with a razor blade. The turtle wax works best with the thinner bits. I did cheat and speed up the process by applying the rubbing compound to a clean felt pad on my random orbit sander.

The compound is made of pumice (i.e. silica), beeswax, and water so it's pretty safe. If you're working on it outside, you could just hose the whole thing off.

Nice work on the black trim.
