90 Gallon Corner Tank

A friend of mine is selling a 90 gallon corner tank with the stand, filter and heaters and lights for 500.00 dollars Canadian. To me this sounds like a pretty sweet deal. My largest tank currently is a 55 gallon....a 90 gal could open up some pretty attractive options. Anyhoo.....Deal or No deal?! Haha. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

The price may be very reasonable for your area. And what condition all the equipment is in and how old it is, something that is pretty much a judgement call done by you.

Corner tanks are usually taller than standard rectangular tanks and may or may not have enough surface area for a large bio-load or sufficient foot print for free swimming fish. But they often look very nice for a show tank.

Depends on prices in Canada. Here, I think it to be a bit high. It also depends on how much comes with it. Since it is a corner tank, it isn't all that common. Is he throwing in substrate, etc? If not keep in mind that you will also have to purchase all that to set it up. What type of filter system?

A bigger question is do you feel it is worth it? If you feel that is reasonable, then by alll means go for it. You might want to check online and locally for prices. Make sure you figure in shipping if using online. That should help you to make a better decision. I usually start at !/2 of new when dickering for used equipment.

Thanks for the quick reply's. I'm going to check out the tank today at 3:00. Is there standard dimenions for a 90 gallon corner tank? If not I'll ask the dimenions. I'll ask how old the tank and equipment is and I'll inspect it for myself. Sorry I'm shy on the details.

In the meantime I had a few more questions. I hate to sound like I'm nubbin' it up but what is a "show tank"? What kind of fish could be recommend for a 90 gallon corner? Preferabley cichlids but if someone has another interesting option, I'm willing to listen.

A show tank in general is something that is in display and very visible. It is usually more of a piece of decor, vice being mainly functional to keep fish in.

I have some 90s that are just on concrete blocks in spare bedrooms but I also have one in a nice cherry stand with canopy in the living room.

You can pretty much do what you want with it; one or two large SA/CA cichlids, malawis. I would however do a Tanganyikan tank with a colony of tropheus as the centrepiece, plus some shell dwellers.
