90 GL marine only, ick now amonia, NEED HELP STAT!!

Sorry to hear that your snapper didn't make it.

In your case especially, I would not recommend using damsels to cycle the tank. Ich can only survive for limited periods without a fish host available. If you allow your tank to run fallow by removing all fish to a QT then all ich parasites left in your tank will die out in within 3-4 weeks.

Make sure that you keep ich out of your QT tank as well, use freshwater dips or medications to treat it (move your inverts out of your QT first).

If your goal is just to banish the marine ich, I would not completely take down and re-cycle your tank if I were you. I would keep your lion in QT for about a month and only keep inverts in your main tank while you let it run fallow of fish for 4 weeks. With no inverts in your QT you will be able to medicate your lion if needed. But on the other hand, if there are other changes you want to accomplish by taking everything down and starting from scratch then this is a good opportunity to do it.

Finally, be prepared for frequent 25% water changes in your QT while your lion is staying there. There's no biological filtration established in your QT so ammonia levels could rise quickly. I'd just keep a constant tub of fresh mix saltwater running with a heater and extra pump and do small volume water changes in your QT every day or two.

Dont use any fish for cycling the tank...you DONT need damsels to cycle a tank. This is a very inhumain and cruel way to treat fish..

Please review the cycling sticky in the newbie section..This will list various different ways to achieve the same results. Yes, cycling with fish is on the list, but is merely there as a way to do it, i bu no means endorse this route..

I agree with what you have said about starting up from scratch if that is your chosen route, but, scrub anything and everything..anything equipment wise, use white vinegar solution..rock wise, either jet wash if possible or scrub in some RO water...

Please dont think i am having a go at you for using the damsel route to get the tank cycled, i am not, not at all..I just wanted to merely point out the fact that it is a common missconception that people NEED to use a fish to cycle the tank...No offence intended by this post matey...

Keep us informed about how you get on with cleanup process and start posting some pictures when everything is back together again so we can see the new tank grow..

Any questions whatsoever, please just shout up mate...

Good luck with all second time around..It does happen all to often in this hobby that when people have what they percieve as a major problem, they just leave the hobby and think why bother....I am really glad your staying with it mate...

Niko

so sorry about ur fish..its alsways so sad when that haoppens. i back up Niko on what he said about the cycle. just go slow and do it right. font be afraid to ask more questions we all love to help.:)

Thanks for the help

I hear what you guys are saying, but I really like torturing fish. Sometimes I take needles and stick them in their eyes, just so I can hear them scream. Just something I do. Or I put them in my but cheeks and fart.

Just kidding. I got it. I got it. I got it.

I forgot that with live rock I don't need to use damsels. So I will drain the tank, fill it up with fresh and just watch the ammonia then Nitrites. I will then clean the tank and and snails and such. Then try a fish or two. I will wait at least a month so I won't have to worry about ick.

Any other suggestions? If anyone needs any suggestions on how to torture fish, let me know. You could call them on the phone and not let them get an word in edge wise, then tell them they aren't living up to their potential. They don't care, don't listen and they need to get a job and support themselves.

Oh wait, that’s my mothers technique.
