92 gal corner tank build

Are you meaning to run the filter on the sump or the tank?

my intent was to run it on the sump, but it looks like i will be required to run at least one of the filter hoses to the tank. Since the tank has 3 holes already, i could use one for filter draw, which the Rena requires for siphon restart. But now, thinking this through if the power goes out it will drain until it breaks siphon and then won't restart... Hmm... Maybe the Rena isn't the best for this setup.

sorry i've been slacking on this project - I did get it re-sealed, then had to build a new canopy for it. the one that came with the tank was not put together right so i just started fresh. I also sanded and re-stained the stand so it would match more closely with the canopy.

Here you can see i just filled the tank; i had the FX3 running but found out the lid leaks so i need to figure out how to stop that. I'll put a Magnum 350 on it to clear it up and start cycling it. (ignore the treadmill on the side; i do every day!)

OK, I'm baaaack... And now, let the drama begin:
I got the hood done, put it on and started playing around with lighting setup. I was thinking all fluorescent sticks or CF, but then remembered I had a PFO 250w MH setup i was thinking of using. Too much? maybe... anyway, here's a story and a lesson for you. I put one of the pendants on blocks on top of the glass lid to "check it out" and see what the other half thought of the appearance. wasn't going to have it there long, i knew it was a lot of heat on the top. We both agreed that it was a really nice amount of light. Just as i was about to go unplug it "CRACK!". Yup. broke the glass.:nilly: I looked up just in time to see my 250 watt pendant sinking into the water! I leapt across the room and hit the "OFF" switch mid-flight just as i heard the fixture go "SSSSssss..." into the water.
DOH! :duh:

Ok, now filtration. If you recall, this tank had 3 holes drilled in the side wall for a Calfo overflow. Necessary for salt/sump setup, and a neat idea to use in a FW setup to minimize the "stuff" inside the tank. Well, I've been struggling to get this "neat idea" stable and quiet. it's quite aggravating when the thing gurgles and makes other obscene noises while watching a movie. I put the Rena XP3 on and it promptly leaked all over the inside of the stand... :angryfire: so i put on a Mag350 until i could get another seal for the XP3. With a new seal, I now have both the 350 and the XP3 on there - so I figured "why have a sump?" And that's when the fun began...
I was messing with plugging the bulkheads in the side of the tank, but quickly found that i don't have the right size plumbing to plug these up. While making a shopping list for the hardware store, I heard that familiar sound of water dripping on carpet. That's when i noticed one of the bulkheads started leaking. not just seeping, i mean drip-drip-drip. BTW it was 10:30pm. so i had to drain the tank down below the bulkhead and take it out. now I'm thinking I'll just remove them and replace with ones i have plugged, relying solely on the canisters to filter the tank. I'm sure a Mag 350 and Rena XP3 are enough.
Whew... this thing better look nice when I'm done!
