I've got my 46g Bowfront going w/ an AH Supply 96W retrofit replacing the pair of 15W T8s. Despite using the stand-offs for the reflector & putting the 1" vented end caps on the hood, the thing gets hot. It got so hot that it cracked the back portion of my glass lid. It got extra hot neat the middle (black plastic center brace).
It seems that unless unless I have the light ~4" or more above the glass, it gets really hot. Some Al foil seems to be helping the center zone...
How high are your fixtures and do you put 'em over glass or not?
