A brief whine about grammar.

echoofformless, do you give yourself a pass when you start a sentence with a conjunction?

I can get past all the grammatical and punctuation errors. If I can understand the general drift of the post, I respond.

If not, I go right on by.

However, if it is an annoying text-speak style, I usually PM them that they might get more response and help if they posted a bit differently.

lmao, well i best stop posting, coz i make the same mistakes lol. I too correct if i spot it in time lmao. Tho usually its like woopsie 2 late now.

Must be the booze or the hair dye...:grinyes:

when using "whine" as a noun, the accepted usage is the description of the sound an animal (or person) makes when scared, hurt, complaining, etc, but not in the sense that you're using it. :)

I'm just being a dork. I'm a huge grammar Nazi. I had to spell check this post and I probably still got something wrong.

Well, Pap...guess I am. Sorry, it just peevs me sometimes and I can't help it. I come and see these type of posts quite often. Normally, I take my own advice and just do not respond...but GEESH do ppl not realize this is a forum, it isn't school, work, or anything else...it is full of all types of folks from all over the place. All with their own personalities and ways to express themselves. For someone to expect them to change who they and the way they are really bothers me. As I said, I am who I am, I talk the way I talk, I write the way I write...and if it offends or annoys you I am sorry...but I can not and will not change who I am just because someone thinks they are better then me because they know all the right ways to say things.

No, I didn't make up fuddy duddy...it may not be proper English and it may not be spelled correctly, but it is an expression non the less (Oh opps sorry if "non the less" isn't the correct way to say that).

Yep..lol...you did not start the sentence with a capital letter.... ;)

lol, not doggin you Lady G. I have never heard of a fuddy duddy before.

Ya'll are FUNNY!!! I would suggest "not reading" my posts then cause my grammar....well it leaves alot to be desired. I use " " when ever I feel like it, I use BTW, RL, and other obvious abbreviations. All I can tell ya, is don't read the threads I guess.

Oh, and I spell things incorrectly to...I correct them if I notice before I hit submit, but there are many times I don't notice it. I may put a coma where it isn't needed, or I may ....... when it is not necessary.

I may say coarse, instead of course....

Sorry, I didn't realize I should take a grammar class before posting in the forums, maybe I just wont make any more posts myself...as I really don't want to annoy people. Then when all you grammar perfect people have the forum to yourselves you can be happy in ready your own posts over and over.

It's just the way I am, sorry if you don't like it.

ya wanna know what annoys me...ppl who think they are so much better then others because they know all their grammar and everything else and those that want to put others down for not being like them...THAT IS ANNOYING. I don't come here to be corrected, I come here because I enjoy the site and the ppl I interact with here, if I wanted to be corrected in everything I do...I'd talk to my hubby, I really do not need everyone here telling my my downfalls and how annoying I am in the way I say things.

The original state of this thread was less in regards to grammatical errors and more in regards to two particular things that people say or do with the language which I find annoying. I mentioned that I look past almost all of the errors to be found except for those two specific things. In fact I wouldn't really call the "whole nother" thing a grammatical error per se; I'm thinking that I may find that annoying because it shows a certain degree of ignorance in that someone isn't taking the time to think about what they are saying.

And the unnecessary apostrophes - come on, anyone who speaks English as a native language and graduated from elementary school knows well how to distinguish between a possessive and a plural. It isn't rocket science.

So the fact isn't so much that I feel better than others for using proper language. If anything I feel unhappy about it and perhaps I get a little upset because it makes me wonder where our culture is heading. It is rather ridiculous that people care so little to retain and utilize these easy, simple little things that they already knew at one time or another. And that they have such little regard for doing something properly.

Ergo it's not so much grammar in particular but just life as a whole. It's just about how little people give a crap about anything. Here we are in the midst of a communications revolution and people don't even care to utilize the fundamentals of language and logic. What else do they not care about?
