Most of the questions which I have seen on this forum relate to which Cannister Filter is best; I do not recall the topic below being addressed previously:huh:.

Cannisters filters have both Inlet and Outlet 'hoses'.
Where does everyone place these hoses (Front/back/side)?
How far 'into' the tank / how far below the water line do you put the outlet?
How far apart from each other is the suggested placement?
How far should decor be away from them to ensure proper operation?
Are there any other suggestions / comments which may help in the placement which is not covered in the questions above?

As long as your suction hose is lower in the tank or at the same level as your dump hose you will be ok. I place my hoses in the back corners, so they are as far apart as possible, no sense in filtering already filtered water. As long as the decor is about a 1/2 inch away, and its not getting sucked into the intake you should be ok. It realy doesnt matter about your dump hose, because its outgoing water from the hose to the tank as long as its not being closed off by a rock and causing back presure. Unless you are building your own canister filter, this preaty much covers it.

its all up to you.. set the tank up and fugure out how strong the flow and suction is. and obviously the father apart the ends the more "effective" you filter becomes cuz it wont suck up the new water and refilter it... most people will put it in the back corners.

Can You Find Mine? :P mind you thats about 100 gal and i have one fluval 404 in it >.<

omg i love 'where's waldo?'

Maybe I'm slow or maybe you all use different canisters. I have a Magnum 350 and the "mounting" piece for the in and out takes keeps them right together. Is there another way to do this, that I could put them at opposite ends rather than right together? Although..now that I think about it, perhaps it doesn't matter as your intake is further down in the water and the outflow is more just under the surface of the water...

Thats just one of the reasones i'm not a big fan or the Magnum 350. Most canister filters will have seperate hoses for intake and return.

I place mine as far apart as my canopies would allow. Promotes most efficiant filtration and water movement. If you have fish that are sensative to current, you might want to put them closer together.

I have an eheim 2026, and with a 29 gallon tank, that creates a bit of current. luckily my tetras don't seem to mind, and i put the suction in one back corner, and the output (which is a 12" spray bar) vertically in the other corner facing slightly diagonal, biased forward. my hoses stay in the back and aren't visible due to a background.
