Hello All!
I've had my 30 gallon set up since June. At first it was a fish only with no live rock but around 3 weeks ago I bought some baserock and few small pieces of cured live rock from my lfs. And I put everything in the tank.
Two nights ago I moved everything from the 30g to the 55g I bought.
I have an aquaclear 70 powerhead and I have two filters, one is a biowheel 350 (from the old tank) and the other is a aqua tech 30-60. I don't have a protein skimmer. I don't have the money for one and I'm unsure as to which one to get. I need one that is really quiet because the tank is right next to my head as I sleep!
I was told that in a few months after all the base rock is seeded I should take out the filter inserts and a put small pieces of live rock in there. And then eventually get a protein skimmer.
So how does this sound? How long will it take to seed? Should I get some more live rock to put in there?
Will my tank be alright without a protein skimmer?
Also, I bought some snails and after looking at the sticky on clean up crews I think I messed up, I bought margarita snails which the sticky said they would die, no wonder the lfs had them for sale! I've had them for probably around 2 weeks now, they seem to be alright but I really don't know how I would tell if a snail is dying or not. What should I do about this?
Do I have to wait to get a shrimp or something for all the rock to be seeded?
Oh yes, the fish I have in there go as follows,
coral beauty
blue damsel
royal gramma
perc. clown
yellow watchman goby
Thanks for reading, I hope I make sense. I just need some input on what I'm doing and if I'm doing will work out.
By the way, the fish are loving the 55 compared to the 30. My royal gramma who used to just stay in a little cave is loving to swim across the tank now, shes a cutie!
