Hey guys,
i have never before kept tetras and am interesed in getting some.
But first a Few Questons,
1. Whats the life expencacy of them?
2. Will neons school with cardinals, black, albino tetras ect. and Vice Verca?
3. Do They Spawn, And if they do, Are they Egg eaters?
4. Is any special Care Required to keep them?
5. How many will fit in a 4 foot tank
6. Are they Fin nippers?
I only have 2 pepperd corys 4 zebra danios and 3 rosy barbs
Thanks,
Gumby

1. Approximately 4-6 years give or take based on living conditions
2. You need to have at least 5-6 of the same species for best results
3. Don't know about reproduction off the top of my head, could probably be found pretty easily in specis profiles
4. at least 10-15 gallons, temp 78-80, probably a power filter, pretty typical tropical fish requirements
5. Lots of variables
6. Some are fin nippers. If you keep a good-sized school, they are usually so amused with themsleves that they don't bother other fish. I've had serpae tetra that were particularly nippy.

Tetra are awesome fish :) One of my favorite types of fish to keep. Let us know what you decided! :D

Oh, what size is the tank?

I would highly recomend getting tetra!

2.Schooling fish like to mainly school with there own kind, but they may school with others, Iv'e never tried it. It is best not to mix to many different kind of schooling fish together (I read that somewhere, but it is just an oppinion)
3. They are egg layers, and yes, they will most likely eat them. If you want to hatch them, you need to put them in a special tank with a screen on the bottom to seperate the eggs, then you remove the parent emediatly. I don't know how the trigger this though because I have not done it.
4. they prefer soft water. Also do NOT put them with angels unless you are not going to keep the neons as they are natural food to the angels. But other than that they are VERY easy.
5. The best way to go on this is to think 1 inch per gallon. Also you have to remember that fish grow, so keep room for that if you want to keep them all later.
6. If you feed them regurally with a variety, you shouldn't have to much trouble with fin nipping.

1. 3-6 years, the larger the type the longer they tend to live
2. generally they will only school with their own kind.
3. They may spawn, but unless you try to raise young properly all the eggs will probably be eaten, and you won't notice any of it.
4. They are generally some of the easiest fish to keep. (with some possible exceptions.)
5. If you only have tetras you could keep as many as 40 of the smaller types.
6. most are very peaceful.

I would reccomend 2 more peppered cories, they do best in a school.

I think it would be a very good asumption that bala sharks would eat tetra.

considering that bala sharks get 12-14 inches long and are totally hyper, and need to be kept in schools or 6 or more, yes, they would devour tetras, and you also could not keep them in a 4 foot long tank. they would need a 6-8 foot tank.
