a fish dies every day help

I don't think the lack of dissolved minerals would kill this quickly and consistently unless there was something added to the tank recently that swung the TDS drastically. I think the contamination issue is more from water running along the roof before reaching the pvc.

What are the tap readings? Oftentimes the tap is just fine in terms of water chemistry, just need to be treated with a dechlorinator for chlorine/chloramines.

River rock may only be an issue if they are causing a dramatic change in TDS. Too much aeration is impossible unless the tank becomes super saturated...excess O2 will off gas.

the rain water is caught off the roof, pvc tubeing and stored in lage galvanized tank.live near nullabor so pollution is not a issue.is the rain water to light that it could be slowly affecting them and if I use tap water, the ph is so high its impossible to bring it back to scale.the tap is very high in chlorine.i also question could the river rocks be a problem?..another rainbow is slowly dieing.is their such a thing as too much aeration in a tank?

You live near Nullarbor?? As in Australia??

Rain water too light should not be an issue. It is like using RO water. I really also do not think river rocks can cause a problem.

the rainbow that's dieing now is in bowl and swimming around top gasping for air and it has a yellow film on its under belly kind of looks like I could peel it off

Normally I agree but the nitrogenous waste from just 11 small fish in over 2,000 gallons of water is not going to register on the test kits available to hobbyists. That is A LOT of dilution power.

You're right. I'm not used to thinking in terms of thousands of gallons and a handful (relatively speaking) of fish.

Nothing sounds like it's obviously problematic, aside from any possible contaminants in the water coming off of your roof. Chemical sealants and the like can leach chemicals that aren't problematic for *you* (your body mass compared to that of the fish, plus you drink/bathe in the water but aren't in it non-stop) but lethal to your fish.

How long has the tank been set up? How was it cycled?

That tank does not look to hold 10,000ltr or 2600 gallons. I think it may be more like 1000ltr or 263gallons (Rated at 250 gallons?). However Jpap your reasoning still stands to be logical, especially given that there are (were) only 11 fish in it. Yellow film would suggest to me some sort of bacterial infection or possible chemical burn. But certainly nothing I have ever heard described.

I would suggest that the OP measure the tank to remove all doubt on size.

I'm suspecting there are more than 11 fish. That or fish cost a LOT more in AU than I'd expect. OP said there were $500 worth of stock.

I'm a bit confused about that now that you pointed it out...add to the fact that they've listed exactly 26 fish and I'm not entirely sure what's going on anymore.

fish are as follows : 2 guppies small ,angel 1 small ,gouramis 1 small , rainbows 6 med , rainbow shark small 1, black neon tetras 2, red eye tetras 6 .

oh and 3 swordstails and 3 phatys

would my river murry cod be killing them over night ?

I'm no good at estimating tank size just by looking, but I'd expect something as large as 10,000L/2600g to be much bigger. Perhaps the dilution factor isn't as strong as I previously thought and the nitrogen readings are inaccurate too.

The tank likely isn't cycled anyways as they said it has been only running for 4 weeks.
