A fish tale. Turtle eating snail

I don't know much about snails, but I find the story highly suspect. I did want to add though, that two of the walls in my fish room are exterior basement walls, and wouldn't be damaged by impact from a large mollusk. Though throwing a snail at the wall is hardly the way that I'd go about breaking it if I wanted to avoid a huge mess.

given that snails are not known for eating anything whole, I find the story highly questionable at least. It is possible that a 1" turtle ended up inside the shell of a 7" snail if in fact they were really those sizes and really in the same tank. Inside the shell and inside the snail are two drastically different scenario's especially from this particular turtle's perspective. I cannot see a turtle holding still while a big snail rasps it to death, and I cannot see a snail eating a turtle whole either. If you've ever skinned a turtle (I have) you'll find that they are as tough as boot leather everywhere that isn't protected by the shell. Even a baby turtle is pretty tough to be eaten by a snail.
And of course as was mentioned, I can't see a 7" snail hitting the wall hard enough to break and not hurting the drywall either. The story is not impossible but seems quite unlikely to me.

Eh, baby turtle shell and inards are much softer. My dog killed and almost ate one of my baby RES(probably 1 - 1.5''). He had the shell in his mouth, and the shell had deep teeth marks in it, so it was soft enough for my dog to bite through most of it, especially the bottom.

This is like the "gold fish in the freezer" story. Impossible!

If it were a marine tank I may believe some aspects of the story but it dosnt seem likely that that would happen.. wouldnt the turtle try to get away?

Yes, but a Dog and a Snail are 2 different types of animals. I would love to see a snail try to eat one of my Sliders. It would never happen. The only way a snail would eat a turtle is if it was dead or near death and that is it. And it would never eat one whole a FW snail's mouth doesn't work that way.

Haven't heard of it. Tell me that story.

hmm

There are also giant man eating Goldfish in the sewers..... :thud:
