many thanks for the compliments

If the museum will go for the idea I have brewing in my head, saturday will be the day that kids can get a free picture taken in front of the tank. I can think of no better way to spend an hour on a saturday than that :headbang2:

great work!

cant wait to hear more!!!

Updates please! I would love to hear how it is all going man. Some pics of the tank would be great bro!

ok so not much in way of change with the decor of the tank, not much in the way of plants to be had here I think I might have to go online to get what I want.

I spent a good half hour tonight watching the way the fish move in the tank and I am totally convinced that I need to redo the outlay of the tank to suit freedom of movement for a gar species focused tank.

I might remove the 2 ripsaw cats and replace them with a armoured pleco and a couple of syn cats, both of which I have on hand here at the restaurant. The ripsaw cats really don't move that much except for when no one is near the tank as soon as someone approaches they go into hide mode.

I took a tape measure with me tonight to see if my eyes are deceiving me on jennifer or not. She looks to have put on some growth since I took over the tank, earlier my picture showed her at about 13-13 1/2 inches, tonight she came and basically sat down in the front of the tank for me so I measured her 14 1/2 inches. I also thought it looked like her split tail fin had begun to heal so I took not of the end of the split being 1/4 inch from the spot before it will keep track.

It would sure be a great thing if she were to suddenly begin to grow since she is for sure stunted.

The feeder tanks in the fish room are now populated with whitecloud minnow 15g, black sailfin mollies(1 male/3 female) 60g, and rosie red minnows 60g. The white clouds are just the remnant of the cycle fish that made it through. I think one of the knife fish is female since it is smaller than the other easily by 40%, so for that fish I am putting in rosie reds, with goldies for the others. Though I do have a tank here at my restaurant where I have some convicts and some cichlids I am growing out.

Now that the tanks are full on cycled and into a regular waterchange regime, I will most probably move my 2 gars and 2 ornate bichirs I have been growing out here to the fish room.

I will do a photoshoot update early in the week, sorry for the delay but running all my personal tanks and my restaurant sometimes take precendent.

Beautiful work, sir. I applaud you and look forward to future updates. Seeing the tank complete (if any tank is ever really complete) should give you a real sence of accomplishment. You have done (are doing) a great thing.

many thanks for the encouragement and advice people are giving both in post an pm

a moderate update here. sorry if it seems that I am all over the board with some of the things but this tank is like life it changes from moment to moment.

I tracked down a top notch plant supplier and should have my plants in about 2 weeks when that time comes I will also redo the way the driftwood is layed out in the tank to give the gars a better turning room on both ends of the tank.

I have been noticing some very interesting behaviour in my fish since I took over this tank. Up till this point I have never really focal pointed on predatory fish, has not really been my forte', yet I have noticed an interesting thing about the presonality exhibited by these fish.

If there is anyone experienced with these type of fish who can give me their thoughts on what I am observing it would be appreciated.

Take when jennifer the resident gar broke a fish in half and spit it out in front of the aro so as to say "I can do this to you!", eventually leading me to bring my aro back to the restaurant. Well it looks like this now

9 inches

Here is where it gets interesting, ever since I brought it back here it has been totally taunting the 2 gars. For example, even with a major abundance of feeders in the tank it would purposefully bump and run the gars when they had snapped a meal, trying to steal the fish from their mouth, even going so far as to hit the gar in mid strike mode and throw it off. Just before I moved the gars last night I swear I could see evil intent in the eyes of this aro and for sure I was watching signs of stress in the smaller of the two.

Maybe I am just imagining this but just for safety sake I moved them.

Now when I planted the gars in their grow out tank, I watched them for a good half hour to forty five minutes taking pictures. It almost seemed like they were playing with the rosie red minnows swimming with them, very interesting to see. I caught what is the funniest fish picture I have ever taken too.

Here is the back drop. The gar had been calmly swimming with them for a good 10 minutes not even trying to strike like it usually does. Then the one minnow turned to say like hello and bam its struck. Here is the string of shots.

there is one particular feeder that I have taken a liking to that I have decided I will keep alive in the fish room and see how it grows out, I love its orange eyes

I moved the mollies to the 15g in the hopes they will reproduce there if they dont I will actually move them and acclimate them to my brackish set up at home and either use the tank for quarentine of rosie minnow or a hatchery for my convicts.

I also have 2 ornate bichir that I have been growing out in my 140g here that are now about 6 inches I want them to be at least a foot in length before I move them to the museum.

Have you thought of doing a little triops tank? They have one at the Baltimore Aquarium. Those guys are really ancient.

This is a bad picture of the tank in Baltimore.

did but the lifespan to short,

though I did score a killer contact and if the museum will go for it I HAVE FOUND A SUPPLIER WHO HAS HORSESHOE CRABS WHOOOOOOOOOT

now it all depends if the crabs will be able to eat the fish or not any thoughts
