Everything boils down to the individual responsability of the person wanting to care for the animal. I would suggest contacting your state DNR office and asking them on how to go about aquiring a licsense to raise the animal you want to (A.Gigas). They will most likely have to come to your house and survey where you plan to keep the animal.
So, most of the people telling you not to own the animal don't know what they are talking about and probably just need to keep to themselves. Many people own and raise exotic pets with no ill effects to them or the animal. If you are willing to go the distance then by all means do it. Just remember that it will get expensive and is very difficult.
