I've been running my girlfriend around to various fish stores for the last few months as she started her 20 gallon tank... and as a thank you she just bought me a 10-gallon tank with a goldfish and a blue lobster. I got it set up with one of her old filters, some gravel from Home Depot, a couple of places for the lobster to hide and a plastic plant. Neither will eat. The goldfish is an extra-large feeder, and I dont know if he's smart enough to see the flakes at the top of the water. The lobster has built himself a little fort under a rock, and wont come out, even when food pellets are dropped right in front of him...

Whats going on?

Maybe they aren't used to their surroundings yet or perhaps the fish makes the lobster nervous and the lobster makes the fish nervous

I was thinking about something along those lines... the fish just doesnt even look up. Its weird. I really have the einstein of fish here.

What is the temperature of the tank? Goldfishes are cold water fishes are lobsters are used to tropical water.

You are lucky that this lobster is hiding rather than being active. I have seing FW losbters attack Oscars and tears then appart. Losbter and skillful hunters and feed on other fishes.

At this point they're into say, the 20th hour of living there? And the goldfish learned a new trick. He still doesnt look up to see his food, but he eats the lobster food as it drops down...
