Stocking kind of depends on what you like and what you feel you able to take care of. I really like cichlids because of the personality of each fish and the vibrant colors.

You've got a lot of options with a 55-gallon tank, but it depends on your interests. You could go with anything from a single oscar to a school of 50 neon tetras. Hard to offer suggestions without knowing what you like.
