A Jungle in here, Discus, my little helper

More overgrowth pictures!!!

Here's a few more. I really need to prune this back so light can reach the fish, and the lower plants. I have a madagascar lace that is great, but it hasn't seen any light for several months. So before I do the big trim I figured I would show you some pictures.

Also I just noticed these little pink flowers that are in the last couple pics. I have not ever seen them before.

I don't do ANYTHING to this tank to get this type of growth. There is very little flow/filtration, NO Co2 and NO ferts. There are 3 gold severums, 10 rainbows, 8 lemon tetras, 2 siamese algae eaters, 1 bristlenose pleco, 5 cories, and I think that is it. I had a couple shrimp in there, but I have not seen them in a while.

Also I was hoping somone has some ideas about how I can keep my big sword from burning. The leaves shoot from the water surface, to the light in about 3 days, and then they are burned to smithereens! I may just put some hooks around the edge and tie strings to the new leaves when they break the surface, to pull them away, but if you have a better idea, let me know please!!!

All these are huge pictures, click on them, and then click again to zoom in if you want more detail. Enjoy!

Sword runner splitting, total of 4 runners in 1, probably will get 50 plants from this runner?

Nice shots!

I have a feeling that my melon sword will be doing that in my 6 gallon.....

I would make a wire mesh cone hanging from the light so the sword's leaves don't touch the light, but grow around the cone instead.

The mesh cone is a good idea. I was also thinking about floating a glass bowl right in the center of the tank, that should push them out to the edges.

Video

Here is a quick video of feeding time in the jungle. The last few seconds you can see how dark it is with all the top growth. That tank has a 150 Watt MH on it.

In HD: (to really get the best effect watch it on YouTube, not in this little box)

Those are the most stunning discus I have ever seen! :D Good job!

Just to be clear, the video isn't discus. I took a video of the discus feeding as well, but for some reason it failed overnight. 2 100+ Mb videos were uploading when I went to bed, but today only this one with the Severum was finished.

Discus video coming soon... Maybe tonight.

Great vid!

Here is the discus. I posted this same video over in the discus section, so if you have seen that, you don't need to watch this one. It is the same thing.

Click it again, and watch it in HD on you tube for the full experience.

This is 2 cubes of blood worms, 2 cubes of mysis and 1/2 cube of brine shrimp. This meal is their treat before bedtime. (personally I prefer ice-cream before bed, but they seem to like the worms better!)
