A little reminder about hatching bridgesii

Unfortunately , it's like easy to breed fish, there's more to it than that they breed. You must (or at least should) cull the less than perfect & be able & willing to find good homes for them.

I found this out with easily bred cichlids, you run out of homes or stores to take them long before the animals quit breeding.

You are a good & responsible breeder, msj, to realize this. Thank you. Even though you make sure to ensure quality animals not everyone is so motivated.

am I the only one disappointed to hear that you're probably gonna stop hatching clutches? =/ Even if any old joe can ship them now, there's no question to the quality of your inverts. Buying with confidence is a rare and valuable thing to me.

I honestly haven't decided. Its a difficult decision. As a responsible hobbyist, I am conflicted about knowing whether or not I would have homes for them. Previously, I knew with the limited market the odds were in my favor. I would much love to continue the work I have done with making the unusual colors more genetically likely, but can only do so if I honestly think I will be able to rehome the babies at around pencil eraser to dime-sized. Right now, its hard to say! I don't want to keep a project going when it could cause detriment to the critters. I don't want to cull snails just to keep my project going. Right now I only cull those with severe genetic issues (big open fissures). I am undecided and guess I will be feeling out the market. I would be hugely saddened to stop my project, but will do what is best for my critters.

I'd also be really bummed if you quit. Your snails are healthy, your dedication to them and knowledge you've built has provided all of us an expert resource on this forum, and I'd prefer to buy from someone I trust.

Please post here if there's anything I or others could do to help you continue. Perhaps we can introduce you to our local LFS who would like to carry snails like yours? Maybe even some of the folks who work at big chains can help you become a supplier, that'd be awesome!

I was hoping to buy some snails from msjinkzd in the spring too :( After a lot of people see the work involved I don't think there will be too much competition in the snail market.

Rachel... i think people will continue to buy from you, no matter who else is selling, everyone KNOWS your snails are top notch in quality... they are very beautiful, and the ones i got from you ain't shy... so they are VERY Friendly......

That is so true. The two bridgessi I got from msjinkzd were loaded with personality.

With 18 tanks running, overpopulation is not an issue for me. I selectively breed color to color in order to increase the frequency of the "rarer" colors heritability. I have not had troubles finding homes so far. The ability for me to spread them out is a big factor in them being so healthy. I have 3 29 or 30g growout only tanks, plus several otehr tanks used just for breeding. All my hatches are entirely intentional and planned :)
planned parenthood.... how responsible.
