Another option is to use plain old aragonite or pool filter sand or whatever and get a few cups of seeded sand from an established tank from one of the club members. This, along with the liverock, will help seed the rest of your sand bed.
Thank you Boggs, I will check that one out!I never used these people but it looks good. http://cgi.ebay.com/Fiji-Live-Rock-...ryZ46308QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Yeah, I think I will Niko...Thank you. As long as it is safe to do, I see no reason not to. Like I tried to explain to them all over there...I will have the time. They are all like...but what is worth more to you time or money...I'm like uhhh...saving money where I can is what is most important to me LOL!!!Concider that corner cut Lady...as said bby others, use normal aragonite sand and it will get seeded on its own over time..all is good.
Niko
Maybe I will ask if anyone would be willing to bring a cup to the meeting or the one's that live in Springfield (nearest to me), if any would be willing to meet me somewhere or something when I go up there...that would be cool!Another option is to use plain old aragonite or pool filter sand or whatever and get a few cups of seeded sand from an established tank from one of the club members. I got some LR from http://www.marinedepotlive.com/ in december. they have a sale listed on their website for 44lb box of uncured fiji premium rock for $159.00 (2nd day air shipping is included w/ fedex delivery to your door). The sale was supposed to end 11/30 but its still up and they honored the price for me in december when I got mine. Each box came with about four 8-16 inch pieces and several smaller chunks - all very nice and poreous. It was well packaged, moist and they are willing to add heat packs for you if you live in a cold area like i do. Their customer service was great as well (due to a screw up my rock came a day late, they offered to pay to ship it back and send me new rock or give me $60 off each box, I opened the boxes up, looked the rock over and decided to keep it, which got me $120 off of a $320 order). Ive always gotten my rock from the LFS before but this worked out a lot better for me. If you do order rock though read up on curing it and be prepared to start immedeatly when it shows up, it takes a bit of work and there was a lot of sponge and other die off on my rock that needed to be scrubbed off.
LOL! We seem to be doing alot of the same things...btw, how is your rockG, I'm thinking about doing the same thing and was just coming over here to post this!
I'm not liking the way my cheapo sand looks in the tank at all. I've got all these previously almost dead rocks in my tank that are growing tons of algae right now. Ahhhh, maybe I should start my own thread.
I want to recommend that you check out this site though:

I spent a couple of hours last night reading their story and reading testimonials on their site and on RC and I am totally sold. Soon as the taxman deposits my money, I'm ordering a "package". They send actual, real LIVE Sand and rock and then once your cycle is established, you call them and they send more live rock and your cleanup crew. Plus, check out the "critters" link on the first page and look at all the hitch hikers you get! And everyone posting about it on RC says the guy who owns the site is beyond generous with extras and hitchhikers, like freakin anemones, sponges, corals, etc! Even fish! I'm totally sold. It is more expensive than others, but from the look of the pictures, it looks like it is beyond worth it. Happy shopping!
