a predicament

Hello there people of this forum i have come here in need of guidance.
A good starting point would be explaining my current situation, I have 2 fish tanks a ~15 gallon and a ~5 gallon. with 2 phantom tetras, 1 Columbian tetra and a Bristol noise catfish in the large tank a red tail shark in the small one. the red tail shark has been given the small tank because i sorted it out about 7pm one night because it was heavily bullying the other fish in the tank, i would like to get a larger tank where maybe i can combine the two tanks back together but im unsure as of yet. I have been fish keeping for about 5 years and have kept Chinese sucking catfish, white cloud minnows, and the others mentioned. Both tanks are unplanted and the large one has a heater.

the predicament is that the solo Columbian tetra is a very big bully, this is most likely because of being kept solo but it is the one who has widdled down the population from about 5 to only itself. Im currently worried about what it would do if i introduced any further tank mates, considering the last time i purchase more Columbian tetras it was already about a one and a bit years older then them.

what do i do? i have really drawn a interest to zebra danios but i lack a quarantine tank and my parents are against any larger tank but fine with maybe another ~5 gallon.

thank you for reading this any feedback would be much appreciated, im sorry if i have stuffed up anything im supposed to do when posting here this is really my first interaction with the site. :)
I’d get rid of the rainbow shark, those can be nasty and I wouldn’t keep one in anything smaller than a 55. The 5 is useless for your current fish, but could be a QT. So what I would do is start over. Get rid of everything and research fish you like that can go in a 15. Once you do that and don’t think you’ll need a QT, a 5 would make a great planted tank with a beta. FYI a QT doesn’t have to be a tank, any container that’s large enough will do. I use sterilite totes as QTs

well i have good news about a larger tank... they are all up for it but i cant have two large ish tanks. i think if i can go very big i will but 30 gallons is hopefully big enough, ill keep you informed on the health of the tank and stuff. i have been fish keeping for 5 ish years since 2019 where i got a 5 gallon for my 13th birthday. but im not really great at it so i will probably be back here often or reading the books i have from the 1990's.

thank you for your support it has helped alot!
Sorry, I missed this. A 30 would work for a nice shoal of Colombian tetra or phantom. I’d still ditch the rainbow shark. I think the BN along with the tetra and a pair of rams would look nice.

so since i made the last post about the 15g a phantom has died...whole fish.jpgbig fish.jpgred fish.jpg
the plants are all plastic sadly. if you can see in the barrel the Bristol nose is in there, and the Columbian tetra is significantly larger then the phantom. the Columbian tetra i think is about a year and a bit or maybe 2 years old.

sorry for the bad photo quality

Like FishAddict74 FishAddict74 said, nothing wrong with artificial. One thing you'll find about most aquarium people is we all have projects. We are always looking to the future and have new ideas and things we want to do next. We are always planning a bigger tank or new fish or DIY idea. We just have to own that it's a process and it will never be done because as soon as it is, we have a new and exciting thing to try. Every one of us started with artificial plants and a tank, that compared to our tanks today, is small. It's a philosophy I like and I think, as a group, we're pretty cool.

When we got together she found out that my past included a fish room. We talked and agreed that two tanks was reasonable for our house and time commitments. What started out as a 30, upped to a 55 with a 30 sump, then two 55's and so on and so forth. I just replaced one of the two 125g tanks I had with a 180g. I am now at maximum capacity for my floorboards. In theory, I'm done. I did get her to agree to replacing both with a thousands of gallons pentagonal custom tank with faux rock like a zoo exhibit if we win a big lottery (that we don't ever play).

Lol, I moved to ABQ from PHX 1.5 years ago and when I was in PHX I had a 10 tank fishroom from 55-180g. When we got here I bought two 75s and told her that was it. Well, now I have 7 tanks and a pond , plus a lizard, snake and a colony of beetles. 🤷‍♂️

LOL! And a colony of beetles. . .That's great. I suppose if we're counting enclosures without fish I also have a 65g hex terrarium overgrown with mosses and ferns with a healthy colony of naturally-occurring microfauna. Back in my heyday I had a couple of indoor ponds in Rubbermaid livestock totes. That's where I kept the larger fish. Now the question becomes, is it possible to build some sort of paludarium where you can keep fish, plants, reptiles, and beetles together?
