A Real Remedy for Phishers

Yep--I'm constantly amazed how many people are unaware of the problem. But then, I'm also surprised at how many people fall for this and other scams. I recently received a phone call from someone claiming to represent my bank, saying they wanted to reward me for maintaining a checking account with them (think it was some gas cards)--and then proceeded to ask for all my 'private' info--including SS#, account #, password (!), etc. I sat there laughing, asked if she was fricken serious, and hung up. I've reported the number to the cops, as well.
 
My husband was tricked by the paypal one... I was soooo mad at him. I had been telling him for weeks, "honey, I keep getting fake paypal emails saying that charges are pending for sales/purchases, and to confirm your info. etc. I think they are fake, be careful". Sure enough, he gives ALL (and I mean ALL) his info. through one of them and we end up with a $500 dollar purchase in Mexico charged to our checking account debit card. He thought it was legit b/c he went through this whole security verification process and everything, (which was all cleverly set up through this email of course).

I just couldn't believe it, if I would have done it I would have been in soooo much trouble, so I gave him a hard time about it :D . The thing is, you think, how can people be so dumb?!? My husband is an engineer and has 2 masters degrees :o

Thanks for sharing the 'mistake'...

This stuff is real easy to fall for. So far, I've seem most of them. One of my first posts here in GCC was warning people of the Nigerian one asking for money......
