A "stay put" plant

Hi guys, I have a 55gal with anacharis, cambomba, ludwigia, a few amazon swords and a couple other plants I cant think of. My problem is, I have an aquaclear 110 filter that puts out quite a current. Are there any plants that I can put in that will grow out nice and maybe slow my current a little but while not uprooting and floating all over the tank? Or maybe is there a way I can slow my filter down? I would prefer not to buy a smaller filter as this one was given to me with the tank.

P.S. Is the lead thet usually comes with plants when you buy them ok to put in the tank to use as anchors?
 
Your best bet may be to get some java fern and then superglue it to a rock or piece of driftwood. The java fern is pretty slow growing, but tough in current IME, and you can superglue it down so you don't have to worry about it getting loose. It also tends to have a fairly lush green color that I like, and it grows in low light.
 
maybe a sponge on the intake? Are you sure there isnt nothing you can do to slow it down? Just a few days ago i found out that i can slow down the current of my filter by moving the in takea little to the right.
 
AC's have adjustable flow. If it's too much, you can always turn it down.
 
Yes there is a sponge on the intake and yes its cranked down all the way to the right. Would it help to bring the water level up to just below the spillover? I know this will affect aeration but I have a pump with two 16" IIRC airstones so I dont think that will be a problem.
 
If you bring the water level up, the current will be directed more toward the front of the tank rather than down. This could help out a lot.
 
Ok I'm doing a water change tomorrow so instead of leaving the surface a 2-3in below the spill over ill go to an inch or less and see how that works. As for glue for the plants, can this be done in tank or should I take it out so as not to contaminate the water?

I wouldn't worry too much about contaminating the water with super glue...it's considered "marine-safe" and reefkeepers use it to attach coral frags to plugs. Would most likely be easier done at least partially out of water however since superglue hardens on contact with water (put a bead of glue on the plant, submerge and quickly tack to surface).
 
i would not do lead weights personally.
