So I was tearing down my 10gallon hospital/qt tank tonight because I am selling the piece of decor I was keeping wet in it and when I was siphoning the water out I found out I had some really small blue ramshorn babies in there so I started to gently pick out the 30 or so I could find and I saw more eggs on the silicone so I scraped it off with my finger nail (dont need more in a tank I want to take down!) and a fish came out? Like a really really (1-2mm?) fish fry. Its mostly transparent but has a dark head. I havnt had any fish in this tank for at least 2 weeks and even then they wernt fully grown (emporer tetras 1 male 2 females)... The only other thing is the piece of decor I had in there came from my 75gallon as I was trying to get any albino BN plecos out that might be hiding in there (the 2 are still missing) but I didnt see anything like eggs in it and I swear this fish came out of the gel-like egg sac I scratched off. I really dont know.. so Im kinda curious as to what it is. Any idea on how to keep it alive? IDK how long its been in there but could it be eatin these tiny snails or other debris in the water? I dropped like 1/20th of an algae wafer in to collect the snails and in the hopes this thing will eat some of it. Ideas/suggestions please :) Id like to grow it to find out what it is!

(its free swimming, mostly transparent, no like yolk sac or anything like that)

It doesn't sound like a pleco fry...they look and act like a pleco pretty much from the moment of birth (at least after the yolk sac has been absorbed). Educated guess is that it's the tetras, even if they aren't fully mature. Am I reading that right, the eggs were on the silicone sealant of the tank?

Anyway, I don't know what you've got on hand, but if this happened to me, I'd catch the little guy and place him in a plastic butter bowl with a nice heap of java moss. Then, depending on the size of the fry, I'd feed microworms and/or newly hatched brine shrimp. If you don't have all that in place, I'd say leave it in the 10 gallon tank for awhile and hope that there are enough micro-organisms in there for it to feed on. It's unlikely that any food items you put in there (sans microworms or brine shrimp) will do it much good since it's very likely too small and too young to eat such foods.

Thank you digitalphrage, I might go try to buy some baby brine shrimps and put it in the bowl like you asid. If the store doesnt have any Ill leave it in the 10 and hope it makes it! So tetras lay eggs in a gel-like way? I thought they were live birth

Ohh kk then maybe a emporer tetra.. unless the eggs came in on the decor then it could be a number of things lol

Hey guys so an update/additional question. I didnt end up going to the store and decided to let this little guy just make it or not make it on his own undisturbed in the 10gal tank... I took out all the decor in it and am using it to float my new piece of wood... havnt seen him for a few days but didnt really look. Today I saw him just hovering out in the water and has grown a little bit and is a little less transparent. So my question is this: if he has lived this long (at least 5 days maybe more if he hatched earlier) will he continue to live/grow? At this point im going to the store tonight for other things and will pick up some food for him since hes made it this far and I am quite curious as to what he is!

now i'm curious to what it is too lol

Thanks ill try to catch it and feed it tomorrow... I tried to get a pic but the camera refused to awknowledge anything was there lol
