This morning was a frustrating morning. I had to get up at 6:30 to deal with the university about something that should have been dealt with months ago...

On the way home sitting in the intersection like she owned the place was a eastern box turtle.

Well I thought, looking around at why in the heck she was there and not out back in the woods near the lake, I stopped, yelled at a driver who didn't see her and almost squashed her. picked her up, set her in my front seat and drove the 6 houses down to mine. Got out, inspected her, she has a piece of mulch jammed up in to her at an angle I didn't see as comfy so in to the sink she went , I ran a bit of warmish water and used an unused paint brush to slowly move it out from her shell.

Then we went out back and I set her down on the patio, trying to decide the best place for her.

We walked to a poorly drained area near the woods that I thought she might like, bugs, tadpoles and snails were abundant here, with lots of green stuffs too.

I let her go and off she went in to the water, she clearly new where she was.

^ she looks like she smiling :-)

I got busy looking at the snails and young tadpoles, and lost sight of where she went...

then I saw her, lounging in the trees in a spot of sun she looked happy!

So I decided since I was feeling so connected to nature(and im not normally up that early) that I would continue out to the bigger lake to see what I could find.

Mind you this is a man made lake, and a lot of the areas where stuff is thriving is because of ppl who were out with 4-wheelers and dumb builders who can't make drainage ditches. Its all good tho, LOTS of life in that area.

WOW!!! I really love the one with the baby frog, still has his tadpole tail. That is a very nice morning, indeed. Nice work with the turtle rescue, too!!

I need a day like that!

Nice save! I always try my best to stop and help turtles cross the road in the direction they were going. Great pics too.

I need that kind of start too! It certainly would make coming to work a little easier.... what a nice story. AND I learned something new.... I didn't know box turtles were swimmers.

Im not really sure she was swimming... I think she was just walking on the bottom of the pool of water. She had options, through the pool, around the pool, or to the woods, but she sure looked like she new what she was doing!
