AAAAAH Bad Water Change...

I just had the exact same problem. I lost one glass catfish, one neon so far, and I have one zebra barb wiggling upside down and sideways. The other three neons look a little stiff and strange, but the other fish seem alright. Bettas and pleco don't show any symptoms.

I suspect that in both our cases it was a chlorine spike. For me, I did an 85% water change and forgot to add Prime before putting the fish in. I realized this maybe 10 seconds later, but by then it had already affected the fish. I scooped everyone out into various fishbowls, but I wasn't quite quick enough for a few.

All my numbers look good, so it isn't the ph or ammonia or anything. Since I forgot the dechlorinator, I suspect we both suffered from chlorine poisoning.

It's terrible to lose fish this way. I hate to see them suffer so.

Hmm... Maybe it's the weather. I had 3 neons drop dead today in the mixed tank. All the tests check out okay and as usual. Everyone else looks 'happy' and healthy...

would'nt it be wise to say you should put de clor in each time you do a water change so this does not happen? is de clor bad that you do not use it?

Well, in my case there is no chlorine in the water, and secondly I didn't change the water. The neons croaked for some other reason.

But in the other cases, possibly a good idea. As one said, they forgot...

I don't use it for the main reason it causes the pH to drop. My water is fairly soft and acidic and for some reason whenever I add a dechlorinator the pH tends to drop a bit. Also I just don't like adding chemicals to my tanks. For me letting the chlorine evaporate off is the simplest method (and I'll definately be doing this from now on).
