OK, I have a question about the Naso I can't seem to find an answer to any where. I've seen a couple of these fish with peduncle spines that stick out, but most of the ones I see don't have this. Is this something that occurs in all fish, but is removed for some reason?? Or, is it a geographic differance withen the species?? I've only seen one Naso at a LFS with these large spines present, all others just have two nubs on the caudal peduncle. TIA for any enlightenment ....;)

Hmm...don't know of any geographic differences with the caudal spines on naso tangs, but I haven't explicitly looked either. They can be erected and retracted at will by the tang as a sign of dominance/aggression, so maybe the one that you saw at the store was just pissed off. ;)
