in any dosing regiment, either happy chem's or Barr's, you need to replace the dosing mixture according to the water you are changing... if you take out 5 gallons, treat five gallons of water with your mix and so on. make sure you top of your tank with fresh water before you remove WC water to keep your measurements accurate

so with this said i for example test my water before changing and then lets say i have a 30 gallon remove 15 gallons and pre treat my new water prior to adding it to the tank with what i need to replace what i have taken out plus any additions or leaving any out to balance my tank?

my question is is if i have a 30gallon tank right i check the parameters to see where they are at then i do a 50% water change. i then dose my water before i add it to the tank to make up for the water i am changing out and also to make corrections, is this correct?

You don't have to test anything before you change water.
Just siphon 15 gallons out and refill with 15 fresh from the tap(adjusted to match the temp) adding tap water conditioner as you refill. I use Prime which uses one drop per gallon so while refilling I add would add 15 drops if I was refilling 15 gals.
After filling the tank you add back your Macros and you're set until mid-week when you test for N and P. The day after refilling you start your daily Micros (traces).
Doesn't get any simpler than that.
Each water change is a 're-set' of the tank and you are starting the process all over again, dosing the required elements.
