So Cal
Hey guys, I just went to my local Petsmart today and returned my original filter I had purchased with my tank that I had recieved from Craigslist. The filter was a Penguin Bio-Wheel Powerfilter 200 Model. The reason why I returned the filter was because the Bio-Wheel itself would basically self destruct. The wheel would stop turning for example. Also, the filter was extremely loud whereas I could hardly sleep. (The aquarium is near my bed). SO after I returned the Penguin Filter I used my store credit and bought an Aqua Clear Powerfilter Model 50. I got home and set everything up just fine. The instructions were a bit vague but I eventually got it. The quality of the filter however is superb. I highly recommend this filter! The filter is so quiet I can now sleep at night! Also the filter is very customizable- allowing you to have 3 steps for your filtration. I just thought I'd should share my experience here because I feel very satisfied and pleased! Hopefully this helps with your filter decision making!

I use an AC 50 on my 15 gallon. I must agree, it's a very nice filter. It's also in my bedroom and I don't hear a thing at night :D

I have 2 AC 50s in my room, one on my 55, (It's not stocked yet) and one on my 30 gallon tank. I can barely hear the one on my 30 and the one on my 55 is very quiet too.

Most of us that have AC's have repeatedly cited the same reasons for our choice. You might also want to note that almost all the parts can be purchased separately as a replacement part.

i purchased an aquaclear 20 of ebay for 17.99 shipped it will be here tommorow plan on setting up a 10 gallon.

I have an Aquaclear 110 on my 40 gallon and when I first got it I kept having to look at my tank to see if the water was moving it was so quiet. I have had it about 8 weeks and it started to make a little noise, then a little vibration so I took it off, dropped the media in a bucket, and used a spray attachment to spray everything on the filter including the impeller. Put it back together and it is just as quiet as when I bought it! Just a little regular maintenance and you will stay in love.
