I have been using both of these products and have been seeing a difference in my taller plants... the shorter ones, not so much - but I assume thats a lighting issue (I have a 4ft. shop light with 2 32W t-8 bulbs over a 55g).

Anyhow - my question is this... I currently have all my plants on one side of the tank (until I can afford more, lol). So should I be pouring the flourish and excel directly on the plants? Or is it okay to pour it in pretty much wherever?

I have been pouring it in on the opposite side because that's where there is an opening (for the filter) and I don't have to remove the whole shop light to pour the flourish and excel.

I figured it was okay to pour it in where I am but I wanted to make sure.

That is fine. It will move through the water and the plants will get it.
:iagree: The only time it would matter is if you're spot-treating algae with Excel, and in that case a turkey baster or something like that works best.

Your lighting "issue" may not be an issue at all. The color spectrum of the lamps you use have the highest impact. The more red of the spectrum the taller your plants will grow and the more toward the blue end will result is bushier plants.

This is a somewhat old thread, but can someone verify this? Red helps plants grow taller and blue bushier?

Red taller/Blue bushier is an old indoor marijuana grower's belief :naughty:
