Absolute DISASTER with neons

I know all too well the frustration of new fish fading away due to mystery circumstances. Of course I've never had so many so I can only imagine that part.
I'd probably do exactly what you're doing.

So sorry Rachel. I know that you have tried your best--there was just nothing that could be done. They were in the best of hands--but rule number one of life kicked in: life is not fair and rule number two: you can't do anything about rule number one. It just sucks.

Yeah, I know. It just stinks.
It stinks like a two week old skunk corpse in a construction site port potty in Texas at high noon.

Rach! I'm sorry to hear that you suffered such a loss!

I'm sure you did this properly but what was acclimating them like? Maybe, because they are so sensitive and you have harder water they need a much longer acclimation time? Have you called the company you got them from? Maybe you can find out if other customers have experienced such massive die offs. At the very least they should know that you had a problem with just the neons.

I love neons but they can be so sensitive that I am wary of buying them. Let me know if you need help. I'm not that far away.

(((((Rachel!!!))))) I'm so terribly sorry. I had no idea you were going through this. I've haven't been able to get on the computer for a few days and just now saw this.

I would agree with all that these little guys had the best possible chance in the world with YOU! You have done everything humanly possible. God bless your poor little heart, I am so, so sorry for your grief and pain. I know you are just sick inside.

How tragic to have to watch them die, with no possible way to know why, or what they need to help them. I pray that you will find some comfort in knowing that you gave your best to them. No one, no one could have done any better than you. These guys were doomed for whatever reason.

Please give us an update.

For any that remain, do you have any Indian Almond leaf? You could try adding that to their water.

The leaves wouldn't help much anyway, probably, if your water is high in KH, in addition to the high GH in your area. You could try adding RO water to the tank to bring down the gh and kh.

I'm not an expert in adjusting water chemistry, though, and I don't know what affect that might have on the Otos and Hatchets, since they seem to be doing alright in the water as is.
