AC 50 on a 20 gal?

There is a stargate in my aquarium.
Hi all,

I'm setting up a new 20g long tank and, rather than buy a new filter, I thought I'd use a spare Aquaclear 50 I have. The AC 50 is rated for up to a 50g tank. Now, I know the companies "over-rate" their filters, but do you think the flow would be too strong for a 20g tank? (For now, I'm planning on a school of bloodfins, a pair of borellis, and some cories.)

thanks! :thm:

Nope, you'll be fine. And if the flow starts to irritate your fish, which I doubt, Aquaclears are made so you can slide the intake tube so it doesn't sit right over the impeller. This will reduce the flow.

Go for it, i would place it in the center if possible.........:)

Just turn down the flow if it is too much. Thats how they rate their filters right? How much gph right? well just turn down the flow rate and ur all good. try to keep it high if you can. if your fish dont like that much movement slowly turn it down,.

Thanks folks, that's what I thought. I have an AC 20 on my 10g and keep it turned down to keep the betta happy. (He is lord and master, after all. :) )

As stated many times before me.....that's a good size. I run 2 AC 30s on my 20, but not at full flow.
